The Prime Minister had joked with MPs about the game during PMQs and was said to have been given a “red card” by MPs.
He responded cheerfully and said: “I don’t care what the score is tonight as long as we win.”
But on a more serious note, he recalled achievements during his time in office, including improvements to the NHS, investment in tackling child poverty, support for Ukraine and support for campaigns for many struggling families.

His praise for England was echoed by Prince William, who said he was “gutted” but told the players he was “very proud” of them.
“They are gutted. England, you gave it your all and we are all so proud of you,” William wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you to everyone on and off the field for an incredible tournament. The fight and belief you showed inspired us all. The most complete England team in a tournament. Keep your heads up.”
