Tom Homan says media rhetoric turned deportations into a bad word

Border czar Tom Homan weighed in on Tuesday’s episode “The Katie Miller Podcast” common-sense border security has been hailed by past administrations but demonized by current Democrats.
Podcaster Katie Miller, wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, asked Homan: “Why do you think American society started saying deportation was a bad thing when 20 years ago even the Democrats were on their side and you could just do your job so much easier, you know, deport tons of people without anyone caring?”
“I really think this is about our president and the hatred for this president,” Homan replied. “They didn’t want to see this president succeed. And I truly believe that because I received an award from President Obama for removing a record number of illegal aliens. President Obama gave me the award because we removed 409,000 people that year.”
“What has changed the situation is the false rhetoric, the hateful rhetoric of the media about the inhumane policies of the Trump administration,” he continued. “That’s why I’m there every day and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, inhumanity?’ “I say.”

“Let’s talk about Joe Biden for a minute,” Homan began. “When he opened the border, over 4,000 aliens died on that trip. A historical record. A quarter of a million Americans died from fentanyl crossing the open border. A historical record. Not to mention humanity. He was killing Americans and aliens in record numbers. President Trump’s illegal immigration is down 96%. That means 96% fewer people are coming.”
Under the Trump administration, he asked: “How many women are not being raped by the cartels? How many kilos of fentanyl are not entering the country? How many known suspected terrorists are there?” [aren’t] coming to the country. “Securing the border is the most humane thing you can do.”
Miller noted how difficult it is for the typical working mother to look beyond the rhetoric of deportation and realize how normal and acceptable this job was in the past.
“You were able to go and deport these families, remove them together, do these deportations, and the community at large thought that was a good thing,” he said. “Back in the ’90s, Harry Reid said in the Senate that birthright citizenship was a crazy concept. Why has society gone this far?”
Among many reasons, Homan said, “I think the media moves people further to the left with their false reporting. I think universities—speaking from experience with one of my sons—move people further to the left. Look, I read press releases every day. Ninety-eight percent of them are negative, right? They misrepresent what we’re actually doing.”

He claimed that the media and various politicians have normalized non-compliance with ICE to the point that it encourages violent confrontations.
“But between the media and members of Congress spewing lies about ICE, if someone is terrorizing immigrant communities, it’s representatives in Congress who say, ‘ICE is fascist, they’re Nazis, they’re secret police,’ so I think some of the recent tragedies have happened,” Homan said. he said.
“People now think it’s okay to not comply with ICE because they hear over and over again that they’re not a real law enforcement agency. So you can obstruct, you can intervene, you don’t have to comply with them,” Homan cautioned. “I said it yesterday — I got a lot of hate from the left — that as tragic as the recent shootings were, they probably wouldn’t have died if they had obeyed federal law enforcement on the side of the road.”
“I don’t think they deserved to die, but if they had followed law enforcement, the tragedy could have been prevented,” he concluded.
