Prince George celebrates 13th birthday as new photo and video footage released
Kensington Palace has released a new photo to celebrate Prince George’s 13th birthday.
George, who became a teenager on Wednesday, July 22, wears a dark suit and a white shirt with an open collar.
He smiles with his hands in his pockets and looks relaxed.
The photo, shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ social media accounts, was taken after George returned to Kensington Palace from Trooping the Color in June.
This photo was taken by Matt Porteous, who took many photos from Prince William and Prince Kate’s family celebrations.
She captioned the photo: “Happy 13th Birthday, George!” was accompanied by the message. followed by the emoji of a party pop singer.
Images of Prince George on the beach in Cornwall were also released to celebrate the young royal’s coming of age.
The behind-the-scenes video montage shows the prince wearing sunglasses, waving and smiling at the camera, playing cricket in the sand, and climbing over rocks barefoot with his younger brother Prince Louis.
The film, shot during the family’s Easter break in the South West, was accompanied by the Prince and Princess of Wales’s message on social media: “Thank you for the birthday wishes for George today!”
George, whose full name is George Alexander Louis, was born at St Mary’s Hospital in London just two years after his parents married.
He was third in line to the throne when he was born and is now second in line to his father, William.
In September, George will start secondary school studies at Eton College in Windsor.
It is not known whether George will remain at Eton, but the college is just a few miles from the Waleses’ home at Forest Lodge in Windsor.
His education so far has been at Lambrook, a private preparatory school in Berkshire. His younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, also attend the school.
Prince William enrolled at Eton in 1995, and his younger brother Prince Harry joined him a few years later in 1998. They both settled in Manor House.
William’s attendance at Eton was a significant break in royal tradition at the time, as he was expected to go to Gordonstoun in Scotland, where he was joined by his father Charles and grandfather Philip.
Eton College is one of the most famous and prestigious schools in the world and has a reputation for instilling self-confidence and leadership, as students are required to carry out many non-academic tasks on their own.
The roll call of famous past students includes actors Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Eddie Redmayne, numerous prime ministers including David Cameron, writers George Orwell and Ian Fleming and adventurer Bear Grylls.
