Your food shopping bill is set to increase. Here’s how much

Industrial leaders, food inflation will rise to 6 percent by the end of the year, and such as Christmas approaches, households are a “important challenge” for their budgets.
According to the British Retail Consortium (BRC), retailers warned against the increasing prices and potential losses if the Chief financial officials expect more price increase in the next budget in the next budget.
A survey conducted by BRC found that 56 percent of retail financial chiefs representing more than 9,000 stores felt “pessimistic” about trade conditions for the next 12 months.
The majority, 85 percent, attributed past price increases to the increase in the previous budget in employer’s national insurance and national life fees, and two -thirds (65 percent) foreseen more increases next year.
The existing BRC figures place food inflation to 4 percent, while the organization estimates that it will rise to 6 % annually in Christmas.
He said: “This will create significant difficulties for the household budgets, especially on Christmas.”
Apart from cost increases, 42 percent of the chief financial officers made frozen recruitment, 38 percent of them reduced the number of jobs in the store, he said.
BRC said that this was reflected in the official business figures and that it was reflected in the first quarter of 2025 with approximately 100,000 less retail than the previous year.
More than one -third of CFOs (38 percent) said they reduced investment in local communities, 15 percent of them delayed opening new stores, he said.
BRC General Manager Helen Dickinson said: “Retail was on the ignition line of the last budget, and the industry fell with £ 7 billion new costs and taxes.
“Retailers did everything they could to protect their customers from higher costs, but price increases were inevitable, considering the increasing cost of employing fine margins and personnel.
“The results are felt by the households because of many struggles to deal with the increasing cost of weekly shops. It is up to the chancellery to decide whether to fan the inflation flames or support the daily economy by supporting the high street and the local works they provide.”
In January, BRC, retailers struggled with increasing costs from the budget, while food prices would increase by an average of 4.2 percent in the second half of the year.
At that time, Mrs. Dickinson said that modeled by the trade union and industrial chiefs suggested that the highest national insurance (NI) of retailers encounters the national life fee and new packaging costs as “very little hope of going anywhere”.
Last week, Sunday research firm WorldPenel reported that previously increased the fastest speed for 18 months due to the increased concerns about the increasing concerns about the increasing cost of life of shoppers.
Grocery price inflation rose from 4.7 percent one month ago to the highest level since January 2024 to 5.2 percent in four weeks until July 13.
The data showed that increasing prices will add an average of £ 275 to the annual grocery expenditures of shoppers.
