California governor tells Trump he’ll retaliate if Texas redistricts

California Gov. Gavin Newsom warned President Donald Trump on Monday and warned that if Trump Texas and other Republican leadership does not call on his regions to end their efforts to re -draw their regions, the state would forcing the congress to re -draw the region maps.

“You play with fire, you risk the instability of our democracy, Knowing that California can neutralize the gains you hope to make,” he wrote, ” letter Trump.

Newsom said that the state -led states are trying to redesign the congress maps to “equip the upcoming mid -term elections” to benefit republican candidates.

If the Republican majority in the Texas Legislative Assembly succeeds in redrawing the region maps, it is expected to give its parties five more chairs in the House of Representatives.

Democrats are now able to turn three home seats in the 2026 midterm exams to recover the control of this congress room.

Trump, in an interview with CNBC last week, republicans said that “five chairs right” at home. Trump accused California and Illinois, a democratic controlled home meetings, of Gerrymanding to protect this edge.

“This attempt to bring the congress maps to power before a single vote in the 2026 elections is an insult to American democracy,” Newsom said in a letter to Trump.

“This is not what the founders predict, and California cannot stand empty as this power cover develops.”

“If you are not going to stop, I will be forced to make an effort to re -draw maps in California to balance the maps in red states.”

The governor added that we will make the same thing happy if he calls the other states “re -distributing efforts.”

Newsom’s warning is among the most prominent democratic examples that promised to resist the efforts to redraw congress maps in Texas.

Democratic state deputies, Republicans in the state house to advance the legislation to deny a nucleus to deny Texas in recent days, this effort reached the fire.

On Sunday, a series of democratic deputies claimed that the party should “fight” against the redistribution efforts.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott reiterated his warning that Democratic MPs will be arrested after returning on Sunday.

“If they want to avoid this arrest, they will literally be out of the state of Texas for years,” he said. FOX News.

Prior to the 2026 elections, the pressure to redraw the congress maps spread to other states, including Indiana.

The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comments about Newsom’s letter.
