INTUC Sweeps HMWS&SB Union Poll

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) Employees Union elections ended with great fanfare with the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) registering a landslide victory.

INTUC candidate Mogulla Raji Reddy won by a huge margin of 756 votes and secured a clear mandate from the workers.

According to union representatives, the elections were held by secret ballot in around 300 divisions of 22 divisions and boards covering Greater Hyderabad and adjoining Sangareddy, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

Of the 2,761 votes cast, 39 were deemed invalid. INTUC, competing on the Trishul symbol, got 1,739 votes while BRTU got 983 votes. Raji Reddy’s margin of victory was 756 votes.

Union leaders said this definitive authority reflects employees’ confidence in INTUC’s leadership and its commitment to protecting workers’ rights, ensuring job security, advocating for fair wages and promoting employee well-being.

Speaking after the results were declared, Raji Reddy said, “This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every employee of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. This is a victory of unity, trust and collective aspirations of the workforce. I am deeply grateful to every employee who placed their trust in me and INTUC. I am determined to protect the rights, welfare, dignity and occupational safety of all employees.”

INTUC leaders attributed the victory to strong institutional unity, extensive grassroots campaigning and trust built among employees over the years. They said the coordinated efforts of the union leadership and staff played an important role in securing the historic tenure.

The victory marks an important turning point in the history of the trade union movement and strengthens INTUC’s position as the credible and effective voice of the working class.
