Sri Lanka ex-President Wickremesinghe hospitalised after arrest, media says
(Reuters) -Sri Lanka’s former President Ranil Wickremesinge, who was imprisoned, was taken to hospital on Saturday, and a day after the allegations that he abused public funds on the local media.
Police said that 76 -year -old Wickremetinghe, who led the nation of South Asian Island during a destructive economic crisis, was arrested and detained on Friday.
Hospital Director Rukshan Bellana told reporters, the next day, the emergency care unit at Colombo National Hospital was taken with dehydration, diabetes and high blood pressure complications. WickREMEINGHE was later transferred to the intensive care unit where his condition was stable and Bellana is mentioned.
Wickremesinghe’s office and the hospital did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for a comment on hospitalization on Sunday.
In the local media, Wickremesinghe, who lost six times the presidency last year, reported that his wife was investigated at a visit to attend a special graduation lunch to celebrate his honorary professor at a university there.
On Saturday, he did not respond to his request for a comment on his arrest. An ally from the United National Party said that Wickremesinghe was innocent and that the case was politically motivated.
