“Due to current funding restraints, we have made the difficult decision to pause Toronto Oktoberfest for 2025,” a message on their website said, “while we focus on building an even better festival experience for the future.”
A City of Toronto spokesperson told the Toronto Sun that Toronto Oktoberfest had not applied for funding under its festival programs.
“Festival and event organizers in Toronto are facing rising production costs and heightened public safety requirements, with inflation, higher insurance premiums and increased security needs placing significant strain on the sector,” said the spokesperson in an email.

“To help address these challenges, the City of Toronto has expanded its support in 2025 through two key initiatives. The Cultural Festivals Funding Program (CFFP) invested $2.57 million, a 33% increase over 2024, to sustain recurring cultural events that engage communities, support diverse artists and animate neighbourhoods citywide. The Special Events Stabilization Initiative (SESI), launched in 2024, has also been renewed and expanded, bringing its budget to $2.1 million to help festivals manage rising health, safety and security costs.
“The city remains committed to advocating for increased support for festivals from the private sector and from other government partners.”
Those in T.O. looking for their German beer and sausage fix can attend the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest, Canada’s largest Bavarian festival, which is scheduled for Sept. 26 to Oct. 18. For detailed schedules and more information, visit the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest website at oktoberfest.ca.
Toronto Oktoberfest is the latest festival taking a pause in the city in 2025, joining the likes of Taste of the Danforth.
