Abdulmanon Aliev: ‘Vile’ predator jailed for sexually assaulting 13-year-old girl on train
A 50-year-old man in Tajikistan was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a defenseless girl on a train.
Abdulmanon Aliev, of Rye Lane in Peckham, south-east London, tried to speak to the girl using a translator app after sitting across from her on the train from Southend to London on the afternoon of June 16 last year.
British Transport Police (BTP) said the woman walked away but followed him because she was sitting in an aisle seat and was therefore blocked from the window.
He subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault until the train reached London’s Fenchurch Street, where she was able to escape and raise the alarm on another train leaving London.
British Transport Police officers arrested Aliev 11 days later when he was spotted by plainclothes officers in Peckham.
His home was searched and the clothes he was wearing that day were seized and a criminal complaint was filed against him the next day.
Aliev was convicted in April of attempted rape, two counts of assault by penetration and three counts of sexual assault.
On Tuesday, he was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court to 12 years in prison, including two years on licence, and will remain a registered sex offender for life.
BTP Detective Constable Elizabeth Cahill said: “Aliev singled out a defenseless child and subjected her to one of the most heinous sexual assaults I have ever investigated.
“Although the spotlight is rightfully on him as a vile sexual predator, I want to pay tribute to the brave victim who reported him to the police.
“Without his disclosure of what happened and his willingness to support our investigation, his conviction and 12-year prison sentence would not have been possible.
“We take every report of sexual offenses extremely seriously and will stop at nothing to ensure despicable criminals like Aliev are put behind bars where they belong.”
