Additional security forces to arrive in Manipur after Bengal elections: Minister

Imphal: Additional security forces will arrive in the state after the West Bengal elections, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Konthoujam said, “272 companies of CAPF have been deployed in the state, including different routes. However, due to elections in other states, 88 companies have been withdrawn. We were told that 15 more companies will be withdrawn, but after the chief minister highlighted the concern to the central authorities, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said that no further companies will be withdrawn. So currently 184 companies of CAPF are retained.”

“Mine and bullet-proof vehicles have already started arriving. All forces withdrawn after the Bengal elections on April 23 and April 29, additional forces and those suitable for counter-insurgency operations will come to the state.” he said.

The Minister of Internal Affairs called for assistance to the government, which is determined to protect the lives and property of the people and to deal firmly with armed traitors who challenge law, order and public peace.

He also called for the cancellation of the five-day state shutdown called by Meira Paibis (women’s organizations) and other organizations from April 19 to protest the Tronglaobi bombing incident in which two children died.
The Home Minister said, “We held talks with the Joint Action Committee constituted regarding the Tronglaobi incident in which two children lost their lives in an unfortunate incident and listened to their demands. We also requested an equivalent post in the state forces for the father of the dead children, who is in the BSF, and a similar post for the mother, who is a nurse in a private firm outside the state.” “The difficulties brought by the closure are felt by everyone. Children whose education is disrupted, daily wage earners, farmers and business people. I want to call through the media for the cancellation of the closure.”
