Blues father-son selection Harry Dean impressed in the opening round but coach Michael Voss was surprised by one aspect of his performance in particular.
Dean, a defender like his father Peter, shined against the Swans despite the Blues’ struggles, and Voss said Dean’s efforts were noted several times in the team’s match review.

But Voss didn’t realize the young defenseman was so talented at chasing at ground level.
“It would come up four or five times in our review,” Voss told Fox Footy pre-game.
“I underestimated their second effort. He raced in the air but also went after them on the ground and his reaction was really handy.”
“He will learn a few things from this game but we have a player here.
“He’s a great young man and he’s only going to get stronger from here.”
Voss laughed when asked if it was “certain” that Dean would lose his cool and be reported at some point.
“Guaranteed; it wouldn’t be out of character,” Voss said with a laugh.
“He has his redhead moments where he doesn’t think much and does something you wouldn’t expect. He’s a fighter, there’s no doubt about that.”
