After ‘lynching’, tension in Assam’s Kokrajhar & Chirang; net suspended

Guwahati: Tension continued in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam’s Kokrajhar a day after one person was killed and four others were seriously injured after a gang attacked on suspicion of cattle theft. Hundreds of people blocked the national highway in Karigaon on Tuesday, burning tires and demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Internet was cut off in these two districts. Prohibitory orders were also imposed in Kokrajhar under Article 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Rapid Action Force was sent to Kokrajhar to control the situation. The army organized a flag march in Kokrajhar. A senior police officer said the victims were associated with a road construction project. Police said they arrested more than 27 people for their alleged involvement in the lynching.
