AKPL Carries Out Double Banking Operation

Nellore: Adani Krishnapatnam Port Limited (AKPL) on Monday successfully carried out a special double banking operation, demonstrating its advanced maritime infrastructure and operational capabilities.

The operation involved the MT AU Libra docking alongside the MT Spica, and both ships simultaneously unloaded their cargo of edible oil. Dual banking is a complex maritime activity in which one ship is positioned alongside another for parallel cargo handling, requiring meticulous planning, specialized infrastructure, trained manpower and stringent security measures, officials said.

AKPL management said the successful implementation reflects the port’s ongoing investments in modern infrastructure, equipment and staff training. The initiative is expected to improve dock utilization, reduce ship turnaround time and ease port congestion.

Reducing onboard time will reduce fuel consumption and emissions and contribute to environmentally sustainable port operations, officials added.
