As the Bihar assembly elections approach, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (October 25) took a strong stand against the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan in Khagaria and warned voters that ‘jungle raj’ will also come if it comes to power.
Addressing an election rally in Khagaria, Shah said that it was the NDA government that was working to eliminate Naxalism in Bihar. “We worked to save Bihar from Naxalism. This election will decide whether we bring back forest raj to Bihar or development rule. Do you want forest raj? If the Lalu-Rabri government comes to power, forest raj will come with it. If the NDA government is formed, a developed Bihar will be known all over India. Vote wisely,” Shah said during a rally. “NDA alliance consists of five Pandavas (BJP, JD(U), LJP (RV), HAM(S) and RLM). Bless it and lead it to victory,” he added.
As today is the first day of Chhath Puja, Union Minister Shah extended festival greetings and prayed that Bihar stays away from “jungle raj”. Shah said, “You all know that the great Chhath festival has started today. I wish a very happy Chhath festival to all the people of Bihar. I pray to Chhath Maiya that our Bihar remains free from jungle raj, law and order remains strong, our sisters and daughters remain safe and Bihar becomes a developed state in the future. That is what I want to pray to Chhath Maiya.”
The Home Minister also said that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar can develop Bihar. “Can Mahagathbandhan, Lathbandhan, which has a history of corruption, develop Bihar? Even just a penny from Narendra Modi and Nitish Babu, who are not accused of corruption, can develop Bihar,” the Minister said. Voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly will be held in two sessions. The phases will be held on November 6 and 11, and the results will be announced on November 14.
The main contest is between the ruling Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led NDA and the RJD-led opposition alliance ‘Mahagathbandhan’. The NDA includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
The Mahagathbandhan led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) included the Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML) led by Deepankar Bhattacharya, the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) and Mukesh Sahani. It includes Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP). Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj is also debuting in the state.
