Ann Widdecombe murder investigation live: Police give update after death of former MP

Detectives launched a murder investigation after the death of a woman who was found seriously injured in her home.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were on the hunt for a “white male” suspect after the former Tory minister’s body was found on Thursday morning.

His death was announced by his management on Friday morning. The force is expected to confirm further details at a press conference at 4.30pm.

Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson said the investigation was progressing at “significant pace” and urged witnesses to come forward.

“We are using all necessary resources to find out exactly what happened and find the person responsible, who we believe is a white male.”

Detectives from Devon and Cornwall Police are expected to hold a press conference at 5pm to give further details of the murder investigation into Ms Widdecombe’s death.

Deputy Chief Constable Matt Longman will make a statement and take questions from journalists in Exeter.
