Wimbledon 2026 results: Jannik Sinner beats Novak Djokovic to set up Alexander Zverev final

Sinner is one win away from becoming the 10th man to defend the Wimbledon title in the Open era and will go into Sunday’s final as the favorite following his flamboyant performance.

Having dispatched Djokovic, he will have every confidence that he has the weapons and experience to beat Zverev, who he has not lost since 2023.

Sinner hasn’t dropped a set since going the distance in the opening match, but he showed his best tennis in a fortnight by refusing to give Djokovic any kind of bid for the match.

He continued his superb serve on Friday, scoring 16 more aces and proving to be superior both in attack and defence, reducing 40 winners to just 15 unforced errors.

Understandably, Djokovic was unable to reach the heights that allowed him to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in five sets over five hours, just minutes before the 11pm curfew on Wednesday.

The men’s record 24-time winner made a grateful hand gesture all around Center Court as he bid farewell to the good support he had received throughout a tough afternoon.

In Sunday’s final, Sinner will face an opponent he has defeated in 10 of the previous 14 matches; But he will be aware that Zverev is a different proposition after ending his wait for a first major title at Roland Garros.
