Antique silver collection found in Edinburgh attic sells for £60,000

A collection of antique silver found by chance in a family’s attic in Edinburgh has been sold at auction for nearly £60,000.
More than 100 silverware dating from the early 1700s to the early 1900s were expected to fetch up to £23,000 when they went on sale at Elmwood auctioneers in London.
Members of the seller family, who did not want to give their names, found the items that had been packaged for nearly a century in dusty chests.
A spokesperson for them said: “We are thrilled with the outcome and completely blown away by the response to the collection.”
