Antwerp fire LIVE: Multiple people dead as fire devours Linkeroever apartment building | World | News

A large fire is raging in a large apartment building in Linkeroever, a district of Antwerp, Belgium. While the deaths of many people have been confirmed by the authorities, a major emergency operation continues. Approximately 200 people were evacuated from the building. The local fire department said they “didn’t know how many people were inside.”

Fire brigade spokeswoman Marie De Clercq said: “We were called to a fire in an apartment building in Linkeroever at 9.53am. When our crews arrived they had already seen a thick cloud of smoke. It was clear there was an intense fire. Fire crews are currently working to get everyone out. We don’t know how many people were inside or how many people had to be taken out.”
