Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy intensifies, BCCI issues two-day deadline to PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi

The dispute began after India won the Asian Cup final against Pakistan but refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Home Minister and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), citing political tensions.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will intensify the ongoing dispute over the transfer of the Asia Cup trophy at the quarterly meeting of the International Cricket Council. Sources indicate that this issue will be an important focus of the agenda of the BCCI’s meeting scheduled to be held on November 4. It is worth noting that the trophy has not been delivered even though more than a month has passed since India won the 2025 edition of the tournament.
BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the board’s plan to take up the issue in the ICC meeting and expressed hope that the trophy would reach the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai soon. In an exclusive interview with PTI, Saikia expressed the board’s disappointment over the extended delay.
“Yes, we are a little unhappy that the cup was not given to us even after a month,” he said. Saikia said, “We are following this issue. We also wrote a letter to the ACC president about 10 days ago, but there is no change in their attitude.”

“They are still holding the trophy, but we hope it reaches the BCCI office in Mumbai within a day or two.”
However, he emphasized that if the handover does not take place as soon as possible, the issue will be officially presented at the ICC meetings to be held in Dubai next week. Adopting a confident stance, Saikia assured Indian cricket fans that a positive decision will be taken in due time.
“On behalf of the BCCI, we are fully prepared on how to deal with the issue and I can assure the people of India that the trophy will now return to India; only the timeline is not fixed. It will come one day,” he said.
The clash stems from the Asian Cup final in Dubai on 28 September; here India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final over to secure their ninth Asia Cup title. However, the presentation of the trophy was delayed for more than an hour after India refused to accept the award from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan’s home minister.
An ACC official moved the trophy away from the presentation area without giving any reason, resulting in the unusual situation of the Indian team celebrating without the trophy.
