BMC election 2026 result: Govinda hails “new vision” for Mumbai after BJP-Shinde Sena win

Speaking to ANI, Govinda emphasized the importance of good governance, stating that the progress of the city should remain the top priority.
“I believed that this government will win and I want Mumbai to move towards progress. Just as other cities are developing side by side, Mumbai should also move in the same direction. This is a new vision in which the state will also be recognized in the form of its growth and functions, just as the world recognizes our cinema, art and culture,” the actor said.
Earlier this month, Govinda actively campaigned for Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the BMC elections and sought public support.
Govinda traveled through Mumbai’s Kamathipura in an open-top jeep as part of the campaign. Large crowds gathered on the streets to see him, take photos and cheer for the actor.
Speaking to ANI, Govinda explained why people in the film industry should be interested in politics and public life. He also shared how he feels the atmosphere has changed in recent years, making people in the creative field feel safer.
He told ANI: “Good art cannot flourish unless there is a good atmosphere. After all these years, we now see a positive atmosphere. Otherwise, we have seen all kinds of troubles associated with a famous name, respect, fame, wealth.” “Since this government came to power it feels like we can move forward, we can work and there will be no problems. We have come out of this funk and the current government has played a big role in helping us with this.”
According to official figures released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and BMC, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party by winning 89 seats.
Shiv Sena, led by alliance partner Eknath Shinde, secured 29 seats with 2,73,326 votes, accounting for 5.00 per cent of the total vote share. The BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance together emerged as the largest bloc in the civic body.
