Tragic Benidorm disaster as entire roof collapses on tourists at popular hotel | World | News

At least seven people were injured when a hotel ceiling collapsed on Easter Sunday.

The terrible incident took place in Poseidón Palace, Benidorm’s well-known tourist hotel. Plasterboard and air conditioning ducts collapsed on approximately 60 guests eating at the hotel.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and confirmed that an 8-year-old boy and a 78-year-old man were among the injured. Both were taken to hospital but released after treatment.

According to local media reports, five more people, aged between 33 and 80, were hospitalized following the shocking incident; one of them is currently under observation at Hospital de la Marina Baixa.

CICU officials activated basic life support and unassisted transport teams, as well as SAMU medical units, to manage the incident. Red Cross staff helped care for those affected by chaotic scenes in the popular Costa Blanca resort.

At this stage, the cause of the three-star resort’s collapse remains unclear; But this isn’t the first such incident to hit the Benidorm hotel scene. The beloved Spanish seaside resort is famous for its vibrant nightlife, wide range of accommodation options and high-rise buildings, golden shores and much more. It remains a favored destination for many hen parties, while others celebrate the historic Old Town and the splendor of its scenic, dramatic coastline, which contrasts sharply with the more widely recognized images associated with Benidorm.

Visit Benidorm’s annual report has revealed that the Spanish destination will attract more than three million tourists in 2025, with around 900,000 of these estimated to be from the UK.

The Express has reached out to the Palace of Poseidón for comment but has yet to receive a response.
