Brazen Russia ‘breaches NATO airspace’ as Putin’s forces pummel Ukraine | World | News

A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle reportedly violated the airspace of a NATO country during a night bombardment targeting Ukraine. The Romanian Ministry of Defense said that its air defense detected two targets in the border area of the Tulcea district during attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, and one of them entered its airspace.
The Ministry stated that contact with the target was lost over a deserted area, which it described as “a serious violation of international law norms”, and said in its statement: “One of the targets entered our country’s airspace, radar contact was lost over a deserted area, 16 km southeast of Chilia Veche.
“We strongly condemn the actions of the Russian Federation that endanger regional security and constitute a serious violation of international law norms.”
A team was sent to investigate the area following the alarm, which started just after midnight local time on Friday and ended at 02.48 am.
Tulcha is right across from Ukraine’s Izmail port, which was the target of Russian attacks, and borders the Danube River.
Emergency alerts were sent to northern parts of Tulcea just after 3.45am local time on Tuesday and ended about an hour later.
In the statement made by the country’s Ministry of National Defense, “Two F-16 aircraft belonging to the Romanian Air Force and Air Police Combat Corps took off from the 86th Air Base in Fetești and their air defense systems were put into firing position.
The government confirmed that none of the Russian drones violated Romanian airspace.
Ukrainian officials said Russia “made a large-scale attack” on civilian and port infrastructure, damaging facilities in Izmail and a Panama-flagged ship. There was no loss of life.
