Brentwood Park and Kambrya College locked down after 8yo stabbed

Two schools in Melbourne’s south-east were closed on Thursday morning after an eight-year-old boy was stabbed on the grounds of a local primary school.

Emergency services were called to Brentwood Park Primary School in Berwick at around 9am on Thursday after hearing of the incident.

Brentwood Park Primary School was briefly placed on lockdown on Thursday following the stabbing of an eight-year-old boy.

While the child, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was treated at the scene by medical teams, a woman, a school staff member, was slightly injured and treated at the scene.

Police said an 11-year-old boy was found nearby and was being questioned. He was then taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Both Brentwood Park Primary School and nearby Kambrya College were briefly closed for the safety of staff and students following the incident.

Brentwood Park was able to resume normal operations shortly after the incident and is working with authorities.

A Department for Education spokesman said: “We are currently working with Brentwood Park Primary School regarding an incident this morning involving a young pupil engaging in dangerous behaviour.”

“The school has put safety procedures in place and police and paramedics have attended the school. We are supporting both staff and students and providing additional health supports to those who need them.”
