The San Francisco 49ers are back to where they need to be.
Injuries increased after last season’s rebound, causing the Niners to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020. After a correction in the market, they are back in the playoffs and challenging for the long-awaited Super Bowl.
Brock Purdy said the team is “grateful” to return to January football, but it’s time to get going.

“Obviously we appreciate it, but at the same time, we need to turn up the volume and take that chip on our shoulders to go out there, find a way to win, and be ready for whatever comes our way,” Purdy said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. he said. “Obviously, things went bad last year and not making the play-offs, you never want that to happen. But for us, we’ve turned the page, we’ve got a new team and we’ve got to find a way.”
The Niners were one game away from this weekend’s break, but they took a loss at home against the Seattle Seahawks for the NFC West crown and the No. 1 seed.
“Obviously, that was our goal last week and we gave it everything we had, but sometimes things don’t go our way in the NFL. And for us, it’s all about rebounding, man. We’ve got to quickly turn the page and go to Philly, get our bodies right mentally, be ready to go and find a way to get this done in four quarters,” Purdy said. “It’s going to be tough, we’ve been there before, they’ve got a really good team, we have a lot of respect for them, but obviously we’ve got the ability to go out there and play our ball and find a way to get it done. So that’s our mentality from now on.”
Purdy has been a pleasant surprise from day one. Purdy, originally the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft and third on the depth chart, is currently struggling to make his first Super Bowl appearance in his first three seasons and has Kyle Shanahan to thank.

Considering the coaching carousel in the NFL, Purdy said continuing to learn from a head coach is “huge” for him.
“Being able to grow up with a coach, having him be able to support you, mentor you, teach you, coach you, do everything. We see quarterbacks who get drafted to teams pretty high up, and sometimes, you know, the players around them, the coaches and the GMs, they come in and out, and the player is left there to, you know, kind of learn on his own,” Purdy said. “I’m so thankful for a guy like Kyle to be able to teach me and take me under his wing and help me grow as a point guard and a professional athlete, and I’ll never take that for granted. But of course we see it every year, new coaches come in and out. So, man, we’ve got to take advantage of the time you have with good coaches and good players around you and make it happen.”
Purdy admitted that they are “talking about” playing the Super Bowl in front of their home fans this year, but they need to “be where our feet are” and just focus on the task at hand.
“It takes everything, man. You know, it’s never easy. It’s never a given. We were the top seed, we got a bye in 2023, we had to make a game-winning run in the divisional round of the NFC championship next week, we’re down 17 and you’ve got to find a way to win and get to the Super Bowl and find a way to come back. And then you go to the Super Bowl and there’s overtime. Like, Purdy said, it’s never easy, you’ve got to earn it.”

“You know, every game, every rep, and it’s the same thing in the regular season to qualify and make the playoffs. The NFL is never easy, man. And so every year, it literally takes everyone and everything to get to your goal, man. So we all understand that. I understand that, and we need to be reminded of that because it’s not easy.”
