Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders made franchise history with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12, and head coach Kevin Stefanski is keeping him in place as the team’s starter this week.

But there is also a contingent of Sanders fans who say Stefanski has been “sabotaging” the Colorado product all season long. Sanders says otherwise.

While the Browns’ fifth-round pick was speaking to reporters, one reporter said: “All your supporters out there are saying Kevin Stefanski sabotaged you.”

“So you want to cause trouble, huh?” Sanders responded at the press conference.

Although rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel was cleared to play this week after entering concussion protocol two rounds before Sanders in April, Stefanski named Sanders the Browns’ starter.

After asking a question about what Sanders’ relationship is like with his coach, he emphasized how little outside perspective matters about his situation in Cleveland.

“What people do outside the building is actually out of my control,” he responded. “It’s not in my power. So you’re acting like I’m going in there and telling them what to do. You know, it’s not something I can control or do.”

“Overall, I’m happy to be here. Coach Stefanski has been coaching since I got here and does a great job with everything that’s going on.”

Sanders added that his relationship with Stefanski was “definitely coach-like” and involved telling him “what I should do on and off the field.”

“We’ve definitely grown; our relationship and everything has grown. So I’m grateful to be here.”

Sanders became the first Browns rookie quarterback since 1999 to earn his first career start after beating the Raiders 24-10. He got his first career touchdown pass thanks to rookie running back Dylan Sampson breaking through Las Vegas’ defense for a 66-yard catch-and-run score.

Sanders also showed strong accuracy, finding rookie receiver Isaiah Bond for a 52-yard strike that would have been his first touchdown had it not been for a poor interception.

Sanders’ performance was a breath of fresh air for Cleveland fans, who saw the team win its third win this season. Even President Donald Trump praised the young signal-caller.

“Shedeur Sanders was GREAT. Won his first match, started his career as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU!”
