Burnham tells Swinney independence is ‘off limits’ at Glasgow Commonwealth Games meeting
The first two ministers met separately with Burnham on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking afterwards, ap Iorwerth stated that he was pleased to meet the new prime minister and congratulated him on his new position.
“I welcome the opportunity to turn a new page in relations between our respective governments, based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to serving the people we serve,” he said.
“I know Andy Burnham shares my belief in the power of devolution to change people’s lives for the better. In that spirit, I have introduced the idea of Wales having parity of power with Scotland through a new Wales Bill, with immediate emphasis on devolution of policing and justice and a fairer funding model to replace the outdated Barnett formula.”
He said they also discussed the cost of living crisis and took a “more collaborative approach to politics.”
“I look forward to more positive and productive discussions as we continue to champion justice and equality for Wales and all communities,” he said.
