Bystander tackles and wrestles gun from alleged gunman during Bondi beach mass shooting | Bondi beach shooting

Footage shows a bystander struggling with the gun of one of the two alleged gunmen during the mass shooting at Bondi beach, which left at least 12 people dead.

In the video of the scene, the alleged gunman is seen standing on the path between the grassy area and the parking lot with a shotgun in his hand and firing into the distance.

A man crouching behind a parked car runs toward the alleged gunman as he fires. He jumps on the alleged gunman and barely grabs the shotgun from his hand.

In the video, the alleged gunman is seen falling to the ground before the bystander points his shotgun at him as the alleged gunman retreats.

While the alleged gunman retreats, the bystander slowly leans his rifle against a tree and raises his hand in the air.

Police said at least 12 people, including one of the attackers, were killed in the attack on Hanukkah celebrations. At least 29 people were hospitalized.

Authorities described the incident as a terrorist attack.

“This is a targeted attack on Australian Jews on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy and celebration of faith,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said at a press conference on Sunday night.

“The evil unleashed on Bondi Beach today is unimaginable and the trauma and loss families are dealing with tonight is beyond anyone’s worst nightmare.

“Australians’ lives were brutally stolen and many injured… Our first thoughts are with those who lived in those terrible first hours of their suffering.

“We also think thanks to the bravery and rapid response of the NSW police and first responders who came to their aid, to all those who received treatment for their injuries, many of whom are now alive, as well as to the bravery of ordinary Australians who, without hesitation, put themselves in harm’s way to keep their fellow Australians safe.

“Today we saw Australians running into danger to help others. These Australians are heroes and their bravery saved lives.”

In separate video seen by Guardian Australia, two men in black suits can be seen crossing a beach bridge and shooting. Multiple gunshots were heard and people screaming were heard.

NSW police confirmed that a man believed to be one of the two gunmen was among the dead, while the second alleged gunman was in a critical condition. It was also being investigated whether there was a third shooter. Police said two police officers were among the injured.

NSW premier Chris Minns told the media on Sunday night: “This cowardly, appalling act of violence is shocking and painful to see and represents some of our worst fears about terrorism in Sydney.”

Minns recognized the “extraordinary acts of personal bravery and courage by individuals in our community.”

“It’s worth remembering that in all this evil, in all this sadness, there are still wonderful, brave Australians who are willing to risk their lives to help a complete stranger,” he said.
