CCTV camera weapon of choice in alleged violent assault

A 22-year-old man has been charged after allegedly using a CCTV camera as a weapon to attack another man before attempting to burn down a house.
Police were called to a home on Wellington Road in Birrong, south-west Sydney, about 1am on Tuesday to reports of an assault.
At the scene, officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command learned that a 22-year-old man had allegedly assaulted a 50-year-old man.
Police said the young man then damaged property by removing two CCTV cameras.
He allegedly used one of these devices to attack the old man.
Police were told the 22-year-old man grabbed a canister from a nearby car and poured the gas in front of the house.
He then allegedly tried to set fire to the property.
The 50-year-old man was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial injuries but did not require further treatment.
The 22-year-old was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of stalking with intent to create fear of physical harm, assault causing actual bodily harm, damaging or causing damage to property, and attempted damage to property by fire/explosion.
He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.
