Channel 7 commentator Kane Cornes completes remarkable run to raise $50,000 for Telethon

Channel 7 pundit Kane Cornes kicked off an incredible AFL Origin weekend with one of the moments of the summer – running from Scarborough to Optus Stadium for the Telethon.
Cornes completed the 18km run as part of the 7’s special Origin Countdown show, which was attended by hundreds of football fans less than 48 hours before the football showdown.
The Port Adelaide champion was wowed by children as he crossed the iconic Matagarup Bridge before being greeted by the star-studded panel alongside Revo Fitness founder Andrew Holder and Fat Cat.
Holder presented Telethon with a check for an incredible $50,000, an incredible donation for Cornes’ work to help sick children in the state.
“This is amazing, I experienced Telethon for the first time last year and was blown away by how inspiring it was,” he said.
“It was a great start to finishing this year with $50,000 on such a special weekend.”
Cornes’ selfless act was the culmination of almost two hours of spectacular nationwide coverage that saw WA and football celebrated hand in hand.
The province was on display from Rottnest Island, where West Coast champion Nic Naitanui and Eagles AFLW coach Daisy Pearce enjoyed a sunset dinner, to the top of Optus Stadium, where commentator and former Victorian forward Brian Taylor gazed out at the Perth skyline.
There was plenty of excitement and anticipation ahead of the AFL Origin clash between WA and Victoria at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.
Hosted by James Brayshaw and Abbey Holmes, Sandropers Chad Warner and Tom Barrass heated up the rivalry while sitting alongside Big V superstars Nick Daicos and Toby Greene.
WA football great Stephen Michael was part of the show along with Eagles Brownlow medalist and four-time Hawthorn premiership hero Luke Hodge.
Even rising Eagles superstar Harley Reid made an appearance, handing an autographed guernsey to state hero Austin Appelbee, who was heralded for saving his family’s life earlier this month.
