Consumer Commission orders private hospital to compensate woman for post C-section complications

The TELANGANA State Consumer Dispute Correction Commission led a private hospital and doctors to pay compensation to a woman who developed permanent complications after a C-section procedure.

Responsible President Meena Ramanathan and Judicial Member Vv Seshu Babu, Naseemunnisa and her husband Shaik Aslam were dealing with a complaint against Sri Vijaya hospitals.

According to the complaint, Naseemunnisa was hospitalized in September 2014 for the fourth delivery. After spinal anesthesia, he claimed that he had developed severe pain, numbness and inactivity in his left leg. A few days later, he was discharged in the same month, but later continued to suffer from what was diagnosed as “foot drop”.

The complainants argued that those who were in Nazeemunnisa were due to negligence in the application of anesthesia. They wanted to repay it with 40 lakh with treatment costs and damage.

The other parties rejected all the allegations and rejected neglect. During pregnancy, they touched on multiple c-section and obesity story. They claimed to have been discharged in a stable situation. The complications were not linked to the procedure.

Receiving all the arguments and evidence placed on the record, the commission observed that the reasonable statement developed a fell drop in foot immediately after the surgery. “The incorrect application of spinal cord injection caused foot drop”. Doctors could not explain the complication or made an appropriate diagnosis.

With these observations, the commission directed them to medical expenses, compensation for La 2 lakh and cost ₹ 20,000 payment. The amount of failure to pay 7% interest per year has been given within six weeks.
