BCCI, SLC Agree on Penalties to A-Team Players Over Post-Game Brawl

In the recently concluded A team match between India and Sri Lanka, the fights between the players and the disciplinary penalties imposed on them came to the fore. Although these matches do not fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC, senior sources within both the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have confirmed that ICC rules and regulations apply to the playing conditions.
Match Referee’s Recommendation
According to sources, Sri Lanka match referee Pradeep Jayaprakash, after consulting the umpires and reviewing the incidents, officially recommended punishment for the four players involved in the incident. His recommendations were forwarded to both cricket boards for consideration.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: 50% of match fees. Tilak Varma: 30% of match fees. Vishen Halambage: 50% of match fees. Niroshan Dickwella: 30% of match fees.
Context and Influences
ICC rules: Although senior team matches are not officially under the jurisdiction of the ICC, enforcement of the code of conduct ensures discipline and consistency.
Inter-board collaboration: Alignment between BCCI and SLC underscores a growing emphasis on accountability even in non-ICC affiliations.
Impact on players: While financial penalties are not career-threatening, they act as a powerful deterrent and reinforce the importance of behavior in competitive cricket.
This development underlines that A team matches are more than just feeder competitions for national teams. These are now areas where discipline, professionalism and international standards are expected to be maintained.
