Dalit Man Thrashed, Forced to Drink Urine in MP

At the back: A 25-year-old Dalit man was assaulted twice and forced to drink urine in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, resulting in three arrests, police said on Tuesday.
An official said that prima facie, the main accused targeted the man after he quit his job as a driver and said further investigation was on.
Additional Inspector of Police Sanjeev Pathak said that according to the complainant, three men abducted him from Gwalior on Monday and brought him to Bhind in a vehicle, where he was beaten and forced to drink urine.
The victim is a resident of Akutpura village in Surpura police station area of Bhind.
“A case of kidnapping, assault and inhumane treatment has been registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and relevant sections of the BNS,” Pathak said, adding that the three accused arrested were Sonu Barua, Alok Sharma and Chhotu Ojha.
It was stated that the injured person is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Speaking to reporters, the victim claimed that she was abducted from her father-in-law’s house in Gwalior’s Deendayal Nagar area and taken to Bhind in an SUV.
He was beaten with a plastic pipe, he said, adding that the trio was forced to stop the vehicle midway and him to drink urine from a bottle.
He said the victim was taken to Akutpura village, where he was tied with an iron chain and forced to drink urine again.
A police officer said the victim was driving a Bolero vehicle for the main accused, Sonu Barua, a resident of Datawali village. His recent cessation of driving has led Barua to target young people.
The latest incident took place a few days after a Dalit youth, who opposed illegal mining, was allegedly beaten and urinated on by four men in Katni district.
In May, a group of men kidnapped a relative from Guna district after a dispute and took him to Rajasthan, where they forced him to drink urine and paraded him in women’s clothes, police said.
In March this year, a man was allegedly beaten, forced to drink urine and made to wear shoes in Ujjain district after he eloped with a married woman.
In July 2023, a viral video had triggered national outrage after a man was caught urinating on a tribal in the Sidhi region.
