DMK MLAs Walk Out as CM Vijay Claims ‘No Horse Trading’ in Post-Poll Alliance

Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MPs on Tuesday walked out of the Tamil Nadu Assembly after Chief Minister Vijay targeted the Opposition while addressing the Assembly.
CM Vijay accused Opposition leaders of engaging in “blame game politics” and criticized previous governments for corruption allegations, amid slogans of DMK legislators.
While the House witnessed continuous disruptions, Speaker JCD Prabhakar and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) members urged DMK MLAs to allow the Prime Minister to complete his speech.
DMK accused TVK of “horse trading” after its Secular Progressive Alliance partners, including Congress and CPI(M), moved in line with the ruling camp. However, Vijay maintained that the CPI(M) and the Indian Union Muslim League took their decisions independently.
Addressing the House during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor, Vijay said that the Opposition’s allegations were contradictory.
“They say secular parties are part of the government and claim that we brought them. They also say that CPI(M) and Indian Union Muslim League have taken their own independent decisions,” he said.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of maintaining law and order and said his government would take stringent action against crimes targeting women and the growing drug menace.
“There can be no difference of opinion on the maintenance of law and order. We will not tolerate harm to women. We are taking action against drug use and will continue to do so. This is not a new issue, it has been around for years,” Vijay said. he said.
Targeting the previous government led by MK Stalin, Vijay pointed out the absence of a Director General of Police (DGP) and questioned why the drug problem was not addressed effectively earlier.
“People have repeatedly expressed their concerns over the absence of the DGP. The appointment of the DGP is possible only during the term of our government. Drug use has increased over the years. Who was responsible then? The answer lies in their conscience,” he said.
Vijay also emphasized that democracy allows asking questions in Parliament, but criticism must be fair and balanced.
“If administrative efficiency means intimidating, silencing and corrupting people, our government simply will not do it.” he added.
The prime minister also promised to pursue corruption cases and said the TVK government would not spare those found guilty.
“We will never loot public money. Every case of corruption that comes to light will be pursued and we will not spare anyone involved,” Vijay said. he said.
Amid the uproar, Speaker JCD Prabhakar assured Opposition members that they would be given an opportunity to respond after the Prime Minister’s speech.
“The Leader of the Opposition will be given an appropriate opportunity to respond. Please remain calm,” the Speaker said.
After taking the Speaker’s permission, Vijay concluded his speech with a cinematic gesture.
