Dormitory fire at Kenyan school kills at least 15 students | Kenya

According to the police, at least 15 students died and dozens were injured in a fire that broke out overnight in the dormitories of a girls’ school in Kenya.

Gilgil police station said at least 15 girls died at the Utumishi girls academy in Gilgil in Nakuru district, about 120 kilometers northeast of Nairobi, according to a police report seen by Reuters.

A police source told Agence France-Presse that 16 people, mostly children, died and 73 people were hospitalized. The cause of the fire that broke out in the dormitory where approximately 220 girls stayed has not yet been determined.
