Egyptian family of six taken back into ICE custody days after being released | ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement)

An Egyptian family of six was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Thursday, days after being released from a detention facility in Texas, according to their attorney, Eric Lee.

Lee said Saturday morning that Hayam Al-Jamal and her five children were in Denver en route to Egypt on a private jet in violation of a court order.

“This is a very graphic situation; an absolutely brazen violation of the separation of powers,” Lee said.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment on what constitutes a violation of the court order.

The Al-Jamal family’s case attracted national attention. They were held at the much-criticized Dilley detention center for 10 months; this is believed to be the longest of any family during Donald Trump’s second administration. The Dilley facility, located in a remote area of Texas near San Antonio, has been criticized for failing to provide adequate care and food for families.

In June 2025, El Jamal was arrested in connection with her husband Mohamed Sabry Soliman. Federal officials said Suleiman threw a Molotov cocktail at a crowd gathered to raise awareness of the hostages in Gaza. He faces federal hate crime charges.
