Seven fire engines were dispatched to the fire on the moorland on Tuesday afternoon. Horror footage shows thick smoke rising from Saddleworth Moor near Greenfield.

The “major fire”, as Manchester Fire and Rescue Service described it, warned residents to keep their doors and windows closed. A message from the service to Two more fires are burning near Greater Manchester, at Marsen Moor, near Deer Hill and Five Mile Post.
