Prince William pays tribute to army medic found dead in barracks | Military

Prince William has paid tribute to a young army doctor who “served with courage and distinction” and was found dead in his barracks.

This post was made by 25-year-old Corporal Lucy Wilde. Videos on TikTok The artist, who documented his daily life in the army, was found dead in his barracks in Warminster, Wiltshire, on 5 February. The Ministry of Defense said the investigation was ongoing.

In a statement posted on social media, William expressed his “great sadness” over Wilde’s death.

He said: “I remember our meeting during his time with the Welsh Guards, where his warmth and compassion were clearly evident. As a doctor he served with courage and distinction and always sought to help others. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.”

Wilde’s brother Josh also paid tribute to his sister, praising her as “strength wrapped in softness”. He said he served in the military “with courage and pride” and “lived with resilience.”

“She loved long walks with her dog, the peace of nature, books that carried her away, and the sense of freedom she found in the outdoors. She had a warmth and loyalty that is rare. She had a heart that would not give up, even when she was hurt,” he said.

Wilde joined the army eight years ago and was in the Welsh Guards until December 2025, before being promoted to corporal and moving to the Royal Yorkshire Regiment.

One tributeThe Welsh Guards said he had a “rare ability to lift those around him” and praised his “bravery” after he was the first to arrive at the scene of a “mass casualty” incident in the Falkland Islands when a vehicle overturned and injured several guardsmen.

“His actions that day were extraordinary and he was rightly commended for his bravery and professionalism,” the regiment said.

The Regiment said Wilde was “popular, friendly and deeply respected”, adding: “During his short time with us, he quickly became part of the Welsh Guards family, not only as an outstanding doctor, but also through the bonds of friendship he forged in the Welsh Guards, as well as the warmth, humor and professionalism he brought to everyone who worked with him.”

“Our thoughts are with Corporal Wilde’s family and friends at this sad time and we ask that their privacy be respected.

“The circumstances surrounding Corporal Wilde’s death are being investigated and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
