Family seeks £180,000 tutor to help boy, 1, become ‘English gentleman’ destined for ‘Eton or Harrow’

A family is seeking a £180,000-a-year tutor from a ‘socially relevant background’ to prepare their one-year-old son for ‘Eton or Harrow’, according to a job advert.

The couple, who are understood to be wealthy businessmen, are looking for a ‘quintessentially English’ environment that includes polo and classical music.

The vacancy posted on the Times Educational Supplement’s job board even suggests this boy could be taken to ‘Lord’s and Wimbledon’ by his new teachers.

The family, who live in north London, are understood to be from another country and want to raise their children in a ‘bicultural’ way.

Tutors International, which is recruiting on behalf of the family, confirmed that the job is real.

Company founder Adam Caller told the Daily Mail: ‘I went to see them and asked them to explain their reasoning and it makes perfect sense.

‘They come from a part of the world where normal behavior is quite different to the UK.

‘They try to raise their children to be fully bicultural; their behavior, eye contact, physical demeanor, interest, understanding, etc. ‘So different in its subtleties that it is indistinguishable from a child growing up in the UK.’

The advert, published earlier this week, states that the new teacher should guide the boy through his ‘first steps towards becoming an English gentleman’.

He explains that the family started a similar program with his older brother when the boy was five, but realized it was too late.

Unlike a nanny, he says there are ‘clear academic intentions behind the role’ to encourage ‘intellectual curiosity and development’.

He adds: ‘Their ideal teacher would be someone who is well educated, has a large vocabulary and speaks with Received Pronunciation.’

The right person should be qualified to work with “ultra-high-income and royal families” and “raised in a socially appropriate environment”, the report says.

‘He will probably have gone to the best schools and universities in England,’ he adds.

And he says: ‘In time the family hope their son will be accepted into a top school such as Eton, St Paul’s, Westminster or Harrow.

‘They should be exposed to a wide range of fully English experiences to help hone their habits, outlook, tastes and sporting preferences.

‘There is no reason why the child cannot visit Lord’s, Wimbledon and Twickenham, for example, and learn age-appropriate information about cricket, tennis, rugby and other sports such as horse riding (including polo) and rowing.’

The ad states that the teacher should also ‘teach him classical music by Western composers’.

Mr Arayan said there were 61 candidates for the position as of yesterday morning and many of them were ‘absolutely, completely outstanding’.

It will begin interviewing candidates next week, starting in mid-November, to determine the successful applicant.

The full-time role will begin when the child turns one, but will be spread out over several years so the teacher can shape the child’s development in their early years.

Tutors International has been recruiting staff for wealthy families for 26 years and Mr Arayan said clients’ demands were not unusual.

Currently the company deals with requests from 60 families worldwide, and the salary offered is often even higher.

Mr Calyan added: ‘It seems incredible, it seems impossible, but it’s not. This is what we do every day.

‘The value of Britishness is very high globally outside of Britain.’
