Farage launches local elections: ‘Vote Reform, Get Starmer Out’ | Politics | News

Nigel Farage has announced his local election campaign slogan ahead of the May 7 election, where thousands of parliamentary seats will be up for grabs. The Reform UK leader, who called on people to “Vote for Reform, Get Starmer Out”, revealed the slogan at a photocall in Westminster today.
Mr Farage branded Sir Keir a “pathetic excuse for a Prime Minister” and took aim at his leadership on the Iran crisis. The Reform UK leader added that the UK was in “troubled times both at home and abroad” and said the country needed “real leadership”.
His party hopes to win thousands of seats in upcoming elections in Britain and the devolved parliaments. Some polls have shown that Reform could come first in many local authorities and the newly expanded Welsh Senedd.
“A vote for anyone other than Reform in the May elections will signal that things can continue this way,” he said. If reform fails to win the election, Mr Farage said: “Starmer will continue to allow boats through the Channel, raise your taxes, increase your savings and target small businesses.”
Sir Keir recently returned from a flying visit to the Gulf states, where he sought to strengthen alliances with regional allies. The previously planned visit came as Iran and the United States agreed to a fragile ceasefire and began talks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, whose closure has sent oil and energy prices soaring.
He had to address the President’s claims that the United States might want to withdraw from NATO due to dissatisfaction with the reactions of its allies to Iran. Sir Keir told broadcasters: “We are very strong supporters of NATO and I have long argued that we need to do more. It is the most effective military alliance the world has ever known.”
He added: “Do we Europeans need to do more? Yes, I have been making that claim for the last two years, as much to our European partners as to anyone else. We continue to make that claim, and we will do that. It is in America’s interest, it is in Europe’s interest. NATO is a defense alliance that has kept us much safer for decades than we would otherwise be.”
Labor is running for seats across the country at the upcoming election and has cited pro-Reform councils such as Kent County Council as examples of poorly run authorities.
