Tesco to offer cashback on fuel as petrol and diesel prices continue to soar

Barclays and Tesco have unveiled a new fuel rebate offer aimed at reducing consumers’ car costs ahead of the busy early May bank holiday weekend.

From 1 May until 31 July, eligible personal Barclays debit card holders can earn 5 per cent cashback on fuel purchases at Tesco stations.

The offer is valid for transactions between £5 and £200, capped at £10 per customer per calendar month. Barclays clarified that the cap is determined by the date of purchase, not the date the refund is received.

This timely initiative comes in the wake of a rise in fuel prices largely attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

A recent Barclays ‘consumer spending report’ highlighted that although most UK adults (67 per cent) are confident in their household finances and ability to live within their means (71 per cent), fuel spend is a key driver of the overall increase in essential spending.

The new fuel offer also runs alongside Barclays’ £200 switch deal for new customers who open a current account through the bank’s app before 28 May.

Once customers sign up for cashback rewards on the Barclays app, they can receive cashback as well as personalized offers from supermarkets, subject to terms and conditions.
