Fatwa Reportedly Issued Against Aamir Khan After Marriage to Gauri Spratt

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan married his long-time girlfriend Gauri Spratt in a private ceremony held in Mumbai on July 4. The wedding attracted great attention as it was Khan’s third marriage.
Some reports claimed that:after the wedding, A fatwa was issued against the actor by the Shahi Grand Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain.
According to ANI, the religious decision was taken because Gauri is a non-Muslim. Maulana Ibrahim Hussein said that according to the interpretation of sharia, a Muslim man is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim woman unless she accepts Islam. In a video shared online, he said such interfaith marriages were considered forbidden, calling them a “sin”. He also said that those who do not accept such actions as sins will be held accountable to God.
Rumi also criticized the idea of marrying multiple times. He said that if a person cannot fulfill the responsibilities of marriage, he should not marry again.
Pointing to Khan, he stated that the actor recently got married for the third time with a non-Muslim woman, and that there were protests in some segments of society about this marriage.
Aamir Khan married Reena Dutta for the first time in 1986. The couple has two children named Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. They later separated in 2002 after 16 years of marriage.
He later married film producer Kiran Rao in 2005 and had a son, Azad Rao Khan, through surrogacy in 2011. The couple announced their separation in 2021 but said they would continue to co-parent their son.
After being in a long-term relationship, Aamir recently married Gauri Spratt in a civil ceremony under the Special Marriage Act.
