Fetterman calls Graham Platner ‘accused rapist’ after Maine Senate exit

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said Graham Platner was always a “dead man walking” after the scandal-plagued Democratic candidate withdrew from the Maine U.S. Senate race following a rape allegation.
“The trash put itself out tonight. And now people in Maine actually have a chance to vote for someone who isn’t all trash,” Fetterman said Wednesday on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”
“[Platner] He will only be remembered as an accused rapist who was thrown out of the election. This is your legacy, brother. And you are a man who cheats on your wife. You’re the guy who was rude to his ex-girlfriend.”

Platner withdrew from the Maine race on Wednesday after facing multiple scandals, including allegations of sexual misconduct and domestic abuse.
He announced his debut 11 minute video On Wednesday evening, a post was made on X calling a former partner’s rape allegation “false.” (Platner was not criminally charged for this allegation.)
“Giving that weird, long speech and acting like people are going to miss you?” Fetterman said. “No one will forget you but you [as] The guy who got kicked out because a woman credibly accused you of raping her. So that’s his legacy.”

The senator continued, “Nobody wants you anymore. I, brother, you are an accused rapist.” “Adios, garbage bag.”
Platner, a military veteran and oyster farmer, spent much of his campaign on the defensive as multiple scandals rocked his candidacy, including a chest tattoo that resembled a Nazi symbol and allegations of harassment from ex-girlfriends.
The allegation that caused Platner to withdraw from the race came from Jenny Racicot, a 41-year-old Maine resident who told CNN’s Jake Tapper that “by the dictionary definition” Platner “raped” her.

Racicot claimed Platner entered her home uninvited and forced her to have unprotected sex, even though she repeatedly told him to stop.
His claim was the latest in a series of controversies that dogged Platner.
“He was always a dead man walking,” Fetterman said.

Fetterman is supporting Sen. Platner in the Maine Senate race. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. He criticized his left-wing colleagues, saying they owed an apology to voters.
“What did he do [Democrats] Do you see anything in this man? “Was it the Nazi tattoo, was it the disgusting messages on the internet, was it the way he harassed women?” Fetterman asked.
“Bernie Sanders needs to apologize to Maine voters and everyone who donated to that train wreck,” he added.

Republicans currently control the chamber 53-47, and flipping a Senate seat in left-leaning Maine is a key part of Democrats’ path to recapturing the majority.
