Guinness Record With 5K Performers

Hyderabad: Bharath Academy of Arts on Saturday broke the Guinness World Record for the largest Kuchipudi dance class with nearly 5,000 artists from across the world participating at the GMC Balayogi Athletics Stadium in Gachibowli.

This feat was accomplished to pre-recorded songs, including Kedara Gaura Tillana, a 10-minute composition by Kala Ratna Pasumarthi Venkateswara Sarma.

The academy, organized in collaboration with the Telangana government, broke its own Guinness record in 2023 with 4,000 participants.

Vasudha Kadiri, one of the organisers, said, “Kuchipudi Kala Vaibhavam 2 is our second attempt to register with Guinness World Records. We had previously attempted this on December 24, 2023 and succeeded. This time, we have broken the record for the largest Kuchipudi dance class.”

Kadiri said the event took nine months of planning and preparation, and students from around the world practiced for two months.

Main organizer Lalitha Rao said the 12-year-old academy provides training in classical, western and folk dances, music and musical instruments.

The dancers came from the US, UK, UAE and Australia, as well as Indian cities such as Mumbai, Raipur, Bengaluru and Chennai.

To ensure the recording was documented, organizers shared QR codes with the artists, which were scanned and verified by the judges.

The event was attended by Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari and Sports Authority chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, who encouraged the participants to strive towards breaking the Guinness World Record.
