Here’s How To Turn Your Photos Into Cool 3D Spatial Scenes With iOS 26

iOS 26 gave iPhones a brand new look with its Liquid Glass design. However, this is not the only upgrade that actually adds visual appeal to your device. One of the other visually interesting features of iOS 26 is the Spatial Scene effect. Powered by AI, Spatial Scene is a handy trick to turn your photos into 3D. It basically detects the subject and background of an image and separates them into separate layers. The two then move independently in response to your phone’s movement, giving the photo a striking depth effect.

If you want to get a hands-on feel for how Spatial Scene works, you can check out the feature in the Photos app or when setting a new wallpaper. However, make sure you are using iPhone 12 and newer as older models do not support it. We’ll walk you through the simple steps to turn your photos into amazing 3D Spatial Scenes and use Spatial Scene on your wallpaper.

You can easily turn your photos into beautiful 3D spatial scenes right from the Photos app. Here’s how to do this:

  1. Open any image, but you’ll see the 3D effect best in portraits with a prominent subject, like a selfie, a picture of your pet, or a landmark.

  2. Tap the hexagon icon in the upper right corner.

  3. Move your phone side to side. You should immediately see the subtle depth effect applied to the object and background of the image.

  4. Swipe left or right to view your other photos in 3D. Spatial Scene mode automatically stays on as you navigate.

Note that the effect in the Photos app is not permanent. Spatial Scene will be disabled when you return to the library or close Photos completely. This could also be one of the factors causing iOS 26 to drain your battery faster, so use it with caution.
