High security in place to ensure peaceful counting in Kozhikode

Politically sensitive areas in Kozhikode district have again been placed under a wide security blanket as part of preparations against violence and unhealthy celebrations after the local election results were announced. Regions that witnessed tensions and isolated clashes during the election campaign and on voting day will be placed under the close supervision of the Rapid Action Force.
More than 7,000 police officers will be supported throughout the district to maintain law and order. Armed police personnel from various battalions will be on duty near the 20 counting centers in the district, and senior police officers will conduct detailed examinations of the arrangement on Friday, December 13, 2025. Instructions have also been given to various Station House Officers to closely monitor developments at ground level and ensure quick response in case of disturbance.
The recently constituted patrol teams will be active for two more days with day and night tours in Nadapuram, Kuttiyadi, Vadakara, Valayam, Edachery and Chombal. Vehicle inspections will be increased with the support of local teams, especially in areas where street fights occur during celebrations.
Although no prohibitory orders have been issued, police have decided to discourage mass gatherings, provocative demonstrations and chanting slogans in sensitive areas. Flash checks will continue in areas where clashes broke out between LDF, UDF and NDA activists during the election campaigns.
As part of intensified cyber patrolling, any provocative social media posts encouraging unrest or violence will be immediately reported to the cyber cell for action. The cyber wings of various political parties have also asked their volunteers to remain vigilant and detect provocative content; as some of the recent conflicts were linked to provocative online content.
Police also warned that the use of high-powered fireworks in unauthorized areas or attempts to disrupt vehicular traffic would result in strict legal action. While camera surveillance was activated in many sensitive areas to strengthen security measures, bomb detection and disposal units and dog teams carried out many inspections in public areas.
