‘Hopeful My Wife Usha Becomes Christian’: Why Did US Vice President JD Vance Say This? | World News

US Vice President JD Vance said he hopes his wife, Usha, who is Hindu, will one day become a Christian like him. However, he added that it would not be a problem for him not to do so because everyone has free will.
Speaking candidly about faith and family on Wednesday, Vance said, “I’m going to say this now in front of 10,000 of my closest friends, I hope that he was influenced by Church in some way that I was influenced by him.”
He continued, “Yes, obviously I wish that, because I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope eventually my wife will come to see it the same way, but if she doesn’t, then God says everyone has free will and that’s fine with me.”

Vance made the remarks while speaking at a Turning Point movement rally in Oxford, Mississippi, after a woman of Indian descent asked him about her family’s interfaith dynamics.
Turning Point, founded by conservative Christian activist Charles Kirk, who was assassinated last month, provided the background for the controversy.
Vance noted that navigating religious differences is important not only in interfaith marriages, but also in unions between different Christian denominations or between believers and atheists.
“According to our agreement, he was my best friend. We talked about these issues with each other. So, we decided to raise our children as Christians,” he said, according to IANS.
He added: “The only advice I can give is to talk to the person God has placed you with and make those decisions as a family unit.”
J.D. Vance Recalls Meeting with His Wife
Vance also added that he was an “agnostic or atheist” when he met Usha at Yale University.
His wife said: “I think he used to think of himself that way, too.”
Reacting to his wife’s origins, he said: “She grew up in a Hindu family, but not a very religious one in either direction.”
Vance gradually found his way back to Christianity and returned to the Protestant faith in which he had been raised. However, three years ago, he took a different path from the sects that dominated Donald Trump’s circle and converted to the Catholic faith, which he now follows religiously.
