Modi To Inaugurate Buddha Relics At ‘Lotus Light’ Exposition

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the sacred Piprahwa Ruins exhibition at a heritage venue in the national capital on January 3. The relics, discovered in the late 19th century, are widely believed to be associated with the mortal remains of the Buddha consecrated by the Shakya clan, according to the Ministry of Culture.

The Ministry is organizing the cultural exhibition titled “Lotus Light: Relics of the Awakened One”, which will showcase the revered Piprahwa Relics as well as other important related ancient artifacts. The exhibition highlights India’s enduring civilizational ties with the teachings of the Buddha and its commitment to preserving and presenting its rich spiritual heritage.

The prestigious event will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on January 3 at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex. The ministry said the exhibition marks an important moment in India’s cultural and diplomatic history as it includes repatriated relics of immense historical, archaeological and spiritual significance, revered by Buddhist communities around the world.

The exhibition will feature curated displays of the Piprahwa Ruins and related ancient artifacts, highlighting their historical, spiritual and archaeological contexts, as well as interpretive narratives highlighting India’s role as the cradle of Buddhism.
