Hyderabad Water Board GM Remanded To 14 Days Judicial Custody

Hyderabad: Fifty-eight-year-old Saggam Anantha Laxmi Kumar, General Manager (GM) of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), was sentenced to 14 days judicial custody by a special court for ACB cases here.
ACB officials later sent him to Chanchalguda jail. The ACB arrested him after registering a disproportionate assets (DA) case against Kumar, who was posted in Project Division-VIII at HMWS & SB in Red Hills; because during his service he used corrupt practices and questionable methods to acquire assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Since this is an offense punishable under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, searches were carried out throughout the day on Tuesday at his home and eight other places belonging to his relatives, friends, banami and other associates.
During the searches, documents relating to 18 acres of agricultural land in Nizamabad and Sangareddy, half a dozen open plots in Hyderabad, three flats and a house were found.
Net cash of Rs 1.10 billion, gold ornaments weighing 2.1 kg and silver articles weighing 9.2 kg were also found in Kumar’s house. A car, a bike and all assets worth Rs.5.88 crore were also found. ACB officials said that the market value of movable and immovable property can be many times higher than the document value.
