Hyderabad: India’s official film ‘Homebound’ has taken a big step in the country’s Oscar journey this year by advancing to the next round of voting in the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming 96th Academy Awards.

‘Homebound’ is among fourteen other acclaimed films from around the world on the shortlist announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The film’s entry into the second round raises India’s hopes for a final nomination in one of the most prestigious Oscar categories.

Other contenders include ‘Belén’ from Argentina, ‘Secret Agent’ from Brazil, ‘It Was Just an Accident’ from France, ‘The Sound of Falling’ from Germany, ‘Kokuho’ from Japan and ‘No Other Choice’ from South Korea. The list also includes entries from Iraq, Jordan, Norway, Palestine, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan and Tunisia.

Final Oscar nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 22, and the winners will be announced at the ceremony in Los Angeles later this year.

If ‘Homebound’ earns a nomination, it will join the ranks of iconic Indian films that have previously received international recognition at the Academy Awards.
