President Donald Trump has entertained the idea of Hunter Biden running for president in 2028, joking Thursday that his former first son might have a chance if scandal-plagued candidates like Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner can survive in the political spotlight.

“[Hunter Biden’s] He’s on social media right now and he’s suggested (maybe he’s joking, I don’t know) that he could run for president in 2028. “What would Hunter Biden be like in the 2028 Democratic primary?” Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Trump on Thursday.

The former firstborn son became active in the X in May, sparking speculation that he was gearing up for a potential political run.

“I would say his past was not the best,” Trump said.

“Hey, if the guy from Maine can make it,” the president continued. “Well, I guess Hunter might do well too, because the guy from Maine is a badass.”

Platner, whom Trump referred to, faces numerous campaign controversies stemming from his deleted Reddit account, Nazi-related tattoo, heavy drug use, sexting allegations and a newly released New York Times report detailing his alleged behavior with ex-girlfriends. Biden, meanwhile, has a documented history of drug use and legal troubles, which culminated in a blanket pardon from his father weeks before Trump returned to office.

Despite the mounting controversy, Platner remains competitive in the polls as he tries to unseat incumbent GOP Sen. Susan Collins.

Trump also likened Hunter Biden’s bid for the 2028 race to that of Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico.

“And I’d say the guy from Texas who looks like Alfred E. Neuman is worse than that,” he said. “If he can do well, I’d say maybe Hunter can do well too. I’m not sure, I think it’ll be pretty close.”

“President Biden is promoting a new book this week. When you met with President Joe Biden, Joe Biden, here in the Oval Office on November 13, 2024, were you able to detect any cognitive decline in President Biden at that time?” a reporter asked.

The President replied, “No, not really. I mean, he was the same guy I’ve been watching for a long time.”

“I thought it was fine,” Trump said, adding, “I don’t know, something happened to him during the debate. It could have been me.”
